Nothing ruins a good UTV ride like getting hit in the face by flying sticks and mud. That’s why, among the many side by side accessories available on the market, windshields are one of the most popular. However, there are many different kinds of UTV windshields, so use these tips from Love Motorsports of Ocoee to pick one that is right for you.

Pick The Windshield Material

There are three main options when it comes to what material your windshield is made of. Polycarbonate, acrylic, and glass all have their own unique advantages and disadvantages.

Polycarbonate UTV Windshields

Polycarbonate is many times stronger than either acrylic or glass but is also much less scratch resistant. If you go this route, try to find a screen with a hard coating for better scratch resistance.

Acrylic UTV Windshields

Acrylic is stronger than glass, and, unlike polycarbonate, you usually polish out any scratches you find. However, when acrylic breaks, it can shatter into pieces and create a safety hazard.

Glass UTV Windshields

While glass is your weakest option, it is also the most scratch resistant. If you go with glass, try to avoid flying rocks or other hard debris.

Pick The UTV Windshield Style

Once you pick the material, you need to pick which style of windshield you want.

The Full Windshield

Full windshields are the most common style due to offering the most protection against weather and kicked-up debris. However, this kind of windshield is a poor choice for mudding because it can easily become covered in muck and compromise visibility.

The Half Windshield

This option covers the full width of the cab, but it is only half as tall as a full windshield. If you go this route, make sure the top edge does not obstruct your field of vision.

Flip Windshields

Your standard flip windshield can be adjusted to form a full windshield or a half windshield depending on your needs. A flip-down windshield acts similarly, but cannot be opened to get more airflow and can only be adjusted by stepping out of the UTV.

Rear Windshields

Installing a rear windshield prevents a “dust suction” from bringing debris into the cab from behind and helps keep the cabin warm on colder rides.

Full Cab Enclosures

A full cab enclosure combines a full front windshield, rear windshield, doors, and a roof for complete rider protection and comfort.
